An electric Mercedes S-Class next year!
October 30 2020, Charles René
Mercedes-Benz confirmed last week that it will launch a fully electric version of its flagship S-Class sedan in 2021.
This new version, which will be called EQS, will in fact be a truly technically distinct model from the S-Class powered by heat engines. It will introduce a new electric platform that will be used by various creations of the star brand.
The manufacturer has obviously been careful not to go into too much detail, this EQS has not yet been officially unveiled. However, we know that it will have a maximum range of 700 km, according to the European measurement cycle (WTLP), which will position it in an advantageous position against the Tesla Model S Long Range Plus (647 km).
Its design will be inspired by the Vision EQS style study presented last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Mercedes-Benz already qualifies it as revolutionary for its segment, with a very advanced interior and an arched profile.
ELECTRIC OFFENSIVE SUV/SEDAN
While the S-Class is the core of Mercedes-Benz’s electric offensive, other models will be sure to expand its footprint on this platform. The German brand intends to launch an SUV version of the EQS as well as a mid-size sedan, the EQE, which will also have a raised livery to meet demand.
The EQC SUV, which was due to launch earlier this year in North America, is also still a long way off. However, Mercedes-Benz will soon unveil the EQA and EQB, electric variants of the GLA and GLB subcompact crossovers.
